Spotlight on our cities around the world: Kuala Lumpur

This month we’re excited to have a chance to talk about Malaysia’s exotic and exciting capital, Kuala Lumpur. We asked Mun Chang who runs Penn Elcom Malaysia to answer a few questions for us:

What do you love about your city that makes it unique?

It’s unique in that it’s a melting pot of different cultures and languages mainly of Malay, Chinese and Indian and ethnic groups. This influence is apparent in the way we work and live together in harmony and the variety and mixture of food we eat.  We have within our small city modern skyscrapers and gleaming shopping malls nearby villages, colonial architecture and natural attractions.

Can you give us a picture that shows off its charm?

I don’t have one picture to show all its charm but will leave a photo of our Petronas Twin-Tower,  once the highest twin tower in the world

Tell us one food dish a visitor must try before they leave.

Nasi Lemak.  It is a Malaysian dish of fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk, accompanied by crispy fried anchovies, peanuts, hard-boiled egg, slices of cucumber and sambal (spicy chilli sauce)  it is often served with an additional deep-fried chicken or dry beef curry.

Tell us about your favourite secret location (like a hidden gem)

The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM).  Although it’s not a secret location and is visited by many locals during weekends and holidays, the entire area is quite big and its hiking trails aren’t crowded in the early mornings.  So one can still enjoy the quietness of nature and be lost among the greens.

Thanks Mun!
