Customer Spotlight | Apt-GB

Based in Cornwall, Apt-GB is the UK’s premier bespoke audio brand and one of Penn Elcom’s long-time customers. Much like Penn Elcom but focusing on sound and cabinets, their mission is to deliver exceptional quality and customisation at affordable prices. They design and build speaker cabinets using only the best materials, electronic components and finishes resulting in amazing sound quality and performance at competitive, budget-friendly prices.

Apt-GB’s wide range of audio products caters to all audiences from installers on a budget who want to retain a quality sounding box, to touring companies that want something suitable for the road that doesn’t fall apart the first bump or sign of water. “All Apt-GB cabinets are made on-site using high-tech and professional machinery and if your needs are more specialised, our design team can provide and discuss bespoke product and customisation services. From custom colours and the addition of your own routed company logo to small quantity OEM, our design team will create a product that fits your own style and specifications.”

Used by some of the biggest names in the industry, Apt-GB has built a strong, globally recognised name and following – “We have worked with numerous bands across the world including UB40 (since 2019). We also have hire stock with John Henry’s & 4Wall UK, as well as stock across the US and Europe.”

Apt-GB is a long-time customer of Penn Elcom, and they have been using our hardware and custom metalwork for over 10 years. “We use Penn Elcom for our hardware for consistency and quality, from handles and feet to custom-made metal work for grilles and covers. They provide us with a wide range of products available from one source so it’s perfect for our requirements.”

Leading the design team is company founder Graham Gosden who has over 25 years of experience in design and engineering for live touring and fixed installations.

Penn Elcom UK Sales Manager Dan Johnson said: “Working with Graham over the last 10 years has been a pleasure and a real learning curve, and understanding the vision Apt-GB have and helping them to achieve this vision has been really inspiring. I continue to look forward to working with Graham and the team and seeing what new ideas they come up with next.”

Graham designed one of the most sought-after products in the lighting and audio industries, the Teleprompter Video…

Apt-GB’s Teleprompter Video, the musician’s teleprompter, provides the touring market with a ‘covert’, big screen, lyric prompting solution that is designed to look no different to an audio monitor to the audience and work seamlessly with teleprompting software. “We saw a gap in the market for a discreet and elegant teleprompter product that looks just like an audio wedge on stage instead of cobbled together wooden covers, or projections onto rear walls.”

After the global success of their SMV range, a stage monitor designed to look just like an audio monitor, we were excited to find out more about Apt-GB’s new SMV2 range, moving the product forward into a new era of video and stage products…

“SMV224 now offers a 23.8-inch full HD rugged screen with a wide viewing angle, giving the artist more flexibility to move around on stage. With a clear high brightness and high contrast video output making it even easier to read. SMV224 also has a little brother, with all the same features but in a smaller footprint, using a 12-inch screen. Useful for occasions where only smaller, more discrete applications will do, such as houses of worship and conferences. We have successfully managed to create a product that encompasses the most common and newest formats of video NDI®|HX, SDI and HDMI with input and output conversion all in one platform, making it a much more accessible technology. We have also integrated network video onboard via the 2x Neutrik Halo etherCON’s, so they can now receive and also convert video onboard and send it out in multiple formats (NDI®|HX, RTSP and many more) and with the halo light ring showing you your status at all times.”
