April 2021 saw us announce our sponsorship of up-and-coming racing driver Alex Berg from Alberta, Canada. Alex’s father, Allen Berg, raced in F1 in 1986 and made his career in racing. Ever since he was born, like father, like son, Alex naturally has always been surrounded by racing, and his passion for the sport grew. At just 14 years of age, Alex landed a coveted spot on the Mazda Motorsports first club racing factory team.
As an avid car enthusiast and hobbyist racing car driver himself, Penn Elcom President, Phil Stratford was excited to announce the partnership:
“We are delighted to partner with Alex at the very beginning of his career. His dedication and professional approach is way above his years and mirror our own values. When combined with his natural talent and raw speed, we are sure that he will achieve his goals and we wish him every success.”
In the 2021 season alone, Alex achieved numerous pole positions including P1 and P2 in the Mazda Spec MX-5 series, won the Championship and a coveted spot on the next Mazda Shootout.
Alex has also been nominated for the Idemitsu MX-5 Cup Shootout presented by Toyo Tires, full of excitement, Alex is preparing for this shootout with great anticipation as winning the Scholarship would give him a substantial cash prize enabling him to race in the 2022 Season of Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup which runs alongside IMSA.
The entire team at Penn Elcom wish him the very best of luck for the future and know he will be one to watch on the racing scene.
