One of our Dutch customers Showtrade has recently implemented an extremely clever flight case lift system for the safe storage and transport of two Timpani or two Xylophones.
The problem orchestras face needing to transport these very heavy instruments is that standard flight cases would normally only hold one instrument and are far too heavy to stack when transported.
By using this ingenious internal lift solution, one of these flight cases can now hold two instruments safely stacking them on top of the other which not only saves a lot of space in the truck, but also in storage when not on the road.
The large instruments roll into these flight cases using a hinged ramp where the lift system will take the first one to the top storage area, and the second will be rolled in and placed underneath. The lift system can be manually operated with a crank or even easier, with a cordless power tool!
Penn Elcom supplied Showtrade with various case hardware for this project including locks, handles, hinges and HPL laminated plywood.
