The shelf dividers are 153.30 mm / 6.03" high.
The dividers are not removable because they are riveted into position.

The sides and the rear of the project box are made from 1.2mm (.04") steel

Yes it is possible, you can actually fit a maximum combination of 6 "D" or "G" series connectors.

The inside dimensions of the R1290 is 16.34" / 415mm.

What is the slot spacing for the rack shelf support? How far from the ends are the slot openings? I am trying to determine what the maximum spacing of the front and rear mounting screws is. A dimensioned drawing would help immensely.
