New Factory Video Takes You Behind The Scenes

Have you ever wondered what the Penn Elcom factories look like inside? Are you fascinated by large machines handling raw steel and creating great products? Are you interested in getting behind the scenes and learning about production processes? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you’ll be happy to know we’ve filmed a brand new video that shows you all that and more!

We opened up our Hastings, UK factory to the cameras like never before, giving viewers an insight into how a sheet of steel gets punched, folded, coated and assembled in our production line.

Our trio of TruPunch 3000 machines has just become a quartet! The CNC room in Penn’s Hastings, UK factory was reaching maximum capacity for its punching requirements so the decision was made to purchase an additional machine from trusted provider Trumpf.

Being able to utilize four concurrently running punching machines ensures that each one isn’t overloaded - so repairs and replacements are kept to a minimum. As well as this, Penn forecasts growth in factory output so the addition was also made with an eye on the future. Being prepared for an increase in demand helps to keep Penn Elcom ahead of the curve and a global leader in production.

It’s estimated that the CNC room will go through about 200 tonnes of steel each month and most of that will need to be punched. As an ecologically-minded company, we need to be as economical with the steel we buy as possible. A flagship model for Trumpf, the TruPunch 3000 is the ideal choice to handle the job, designed to make the most of each sheet and get about 10% more out of each one.

Because of its efficient programming, not only do we need to buy fewer sheets, but our waste management has improved as well. The cutting-edge software is cleverly designed to create offcuts that are sorted, packaged and scrapped more efficiently. Incredibly, each machine only uses 5.6 kW which is about the same power that one household solar panel generates.
