Customer Spotlight | Flightcase Warehouse

Flightcase Warehouse is one of Penn Elcom’s long-time and valued customers. What started 30 years ago with one man, Steve Austin (Director & Creator) building cases, to now with over 30 skilled and expert staff, Flightcase Warehouse has seen exponential growth and work with some of the biggest names in the Motorsports, Audio Visual, Entertainment and Aerospace industries.

Flightcase Warehouse have various locations across the UK; Silverstone Race Circuit, Pinewood Studios, their Head Office in Tamworth and a recently opened hot desk office at Production Park, West Yorkshire. In 2019, they opened their first satellite office at Silverstone Race Circuit to meet their growing demand and sales within the motor racing industry and now have a permanent base there. The same is true with Pinewood Studios. “With so many film and TV companies there that we would visit on an almost daily basis, it had become almost impossible to keep up with demand! MBS is one of our biggest clients and we were onsite so often, it made sense to have an office there.”

Penn Elcom has always played a key role in the success of Flightcase Warehouse, with the two companies working hand in hand to develop new hardware and specialised tooling. Flightcase Warehouse President Steve Austin said “We have always had a great relationship with Penn Elcom. Starting with Colin Freeman (RIP), Graham McGrath, of course Roger Willems, and now Dan Johnson and Rob Platt. Penn’s unique input has been invaluable for the sustained growth and success of Flightcase Warehouse... We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Another key part of their success is the ability to offer bespoke branding options; CNC Engraving, Digital Printing and Screen Printing. Using these techniques alongside a vast range of paint finishes and panel colours, they produce truly custom cases to suit any brand flawlessly!

With its continued growth and success, Flightcase Warehouse is able to adapt and increase its state-of-the-art facilities. They have recently added a 4th CNC machine to their production line – this particular machine is 3 times as fast as their next best model, can automatically load and square any size of sheet and can load multiple programs at the same time. “We’re always looking at how we can improve our production and the way we do things at Flightcase Warehouse. Making this investment at this time will enable us to improve service and that is always a top priority.”

But it is not just machinery that makes a big difference to their production… At the beginning of 2022, Flightcase Warehouse invested in several Penn Elcom RAFT-1 rise and fall table legs. “As we’re predominantly a custom case manufacturer and no two orders are the same, it’s important that our workstations are designed to be cost-effective, flexible, time efficient and adhere to health & safety. The RAFT-1 tables help us to work quickly and efficiently whatever size case the team are building; being able to adjust the height of the table means the team can work safely reaching the top of taller cases and means they don’t have to lift cases and up and down off the workstations.”

Flightcase Warehouse’s strategic thinking and continued investment to enhance all aspects of production and product quality have resulted in many fantastic projects over the years. There are so many that we couldn’t list them all! But below are some of our favourites.

"We are proud to be part of the official supply chain for the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This box is specially designed to hold the keys and steering wheel as a part of the handover to the client."

"A recent client wanted a case for their Peloton bike...here's the end result"

"More 72-way dimmer rack cases for lighting power distribution equipment going to Creative Technology"

"A set of custom flightcases for Bad Dog Designs recreation of the Alan Turing ACE (automatic computing engine)"

"We created Flightcase furniture for The Megaro hotel in London..."

“Over the next 12 months, we plan continued growth, growing our team, working with current and new markets within Aerospace and Motorsport as we expand our opportunities within these industries. As we look to achieve our biggest year to date, our team have been invaluable with their work ethic and consistency to the Flightcase Warehouse and we intend to develop and nurture our team moving forwards.” – We wish Flightcase Warehouse all the luck for their future projects and are proud of and will continue to develop the relationship we have established… here’s to at least another 30 years!
